Today feels like a day to organize, curl up with a book, journal, reflect on what’s to be created next, stroll through the woods… Here are some signs of autumn from my last walk in the woods. Though most leaves are still green and on the trees, these in their autumnal glory surprised me with their vibrant colors and how artfully they had landed on the ground. The fungal variety also never ceases to amaze me, especially this time of year! And of course, there are hearts–love everywhere, and in all the seasons! Oh how I love the woods! What do you love about this time of year wherever you are?

Sitting on the fence!?

Sitting on the Fence?

Are you sitting on the fence? I’m good at that! Actually I’m an expert at weighing all the pros and cons of everything! I’m playing with getting off the fence and more readily making choices. I can always make another choice a moment later. How about you? Are you sitting on the fence about something or are you choosing for you in every moment, knowing you can always choose again? Once we choose, it’s like the stinky stagnant waters of indecision are set into free-flowing motion towards what we desire!

Glory of being who we are

As it sipped the nectar of the lilac hosta flowers, sunlight magnified the glory of the ruby-throated hummingbird and its emerald green luminescent feathers. I couldn’t change the camera settings fast enough to  share that splendor. After scanning the area for a return of the tiny magnificent bird, I caught sight of it up on a branch. Though its colors were muted without full sunlight, it sat in full presence and stirred something in me as it arched up, displaying its neck and full vulnerability. Did it know I was there? I was touched by this little bird just being its bird self. It didn’t put on a show or strive to be bigger or smaller, but seemed content in who and how it was in that very moment. We never really know how we might touch others just by being who we are…

What’s behind a photograph?

Posted by on Aug 16, 2013 in True Nature Expression | 0 comments

What’s behind a photograph? I’ve always loved photographing nature and revel in macro or close-ups. More on that in another post! Recently I started shooting some street scenes. You may have read my Instagram Confessional on my Facebook fanpage. It seems Instagram has contributed to opening up my world to photograph anything from the peeling paint on a car, to storefronts and their interior details, to sneakers-have you noticed the new trend in fluorescent colors!? There are still so many shots on my iPhone that I’m excited to put into Instagram and of course new photo opportunities everyday!

Reflections Through The Looking Glass

Here’s a glimpse at what’s behind one of my street scene photographs from the other day. As I was headed back to my car as I caught a glimmer of evening light in a puddle at an intersection. I photographed the reflection of a street sign multiplying in the ripples after cars drove through. Then it occurred to me that there might be more to see, so I walked into the street, carefully peering into the water-as if it were a deep abyss I could fall into. It was almost surreal to see the street sign disappear and a church slowly surface from the ‘nave’ to the steeple. I felt like Alice in Wonderland peering through the looking glass as different perspectives emerged the deeper I looked. I took some shots with my camera and then moved out of the street. When I saw a biker coming, I grabbed my iPhone to catch the bike and church both reflected. I love how degrees of separation fade as the ‘body’ of the church and road become one.

Sing Your Song

This Morning’s Song: Barefoot, Bathing in Sunshine, a dog that stares at shadows regardless of whether or not they stare back!

Like a magic act, it had suddenly vanished! Just over 2 weeks of posting photographs daily, the motivation to post again was gone!

POOF!

It would be simple to post one of the gorgeous nature images from my archives that I love. Why wasn’t I called to jump on the computer to share one? It feels great to share when there’s interaction with my postings–when people ‘like’ or comment or share. Yesterday there wasn’t any interaction. I wasn’t at all worried that nobody had liked it.  I was content with what I had written and really liked the photograph as well.  What I write and what photo I post is what comes out each day. Sometimes I’m more excited about it than others but I don’t need the ‘likes’ as acknowledgement. It’s just more meaningful to me if I feel it “reaches” people. It’s the difference between having a conversation with myself, or with others.

Sure accolades are lovely, but I love photographing regardless of if anyone sees or showers praise on my photographs.  The trick in the magic show of posting on my website and Facebook fanpage is how to dance the motivation mambo–how to continue to dance and love it,  regardless of whether or not there are dance partners! I do love to dance and to share; I know I have to do it for me regardless of whether or not or how what I share is received.  Again, I came to this realization as I stood outside barefoot in the wet grass in my nightshirt, bathing in sunshine, listening to cooing morning doves, clucking chickens, and crowing rooster, all singing their song whether or not anyone hears them.
