Self-love, the antidote to self-sabotage

How do I listen to the stirrings of my heart and let them dance when I’m in self-sabotage mode?

I’m looking for a magic bullet (hmm I should choose another word that doesn’t make some people think of violence, and isn’t that a blender thingy anyway? How about magic pill? That doesn’t quite have the same potency, and I need all the help I can get; I’m looking for a magic bullet).

I can hear Buddha, my coach and even my higher self telling me to simply do what feels in the flow and whatever wants to come through will.

Have you ever had those days when you don’t get anywhere at the task at hand because you keep hitting refresh to your email or Facebook newsfeed? If you have, you know how it is. You don’t really truly even want to be on Facebook. You’ve even signed yourself out and taken it off your toolbar bookmarks and yet, how long does it take you to type in Facebook.com with your username and password? I know I’ve gotten even faster at it! Too fast.

You’ve got loads to do and so much to share with the world – only it feels like a homework assignment to write – and yet you do want to share something. After all, what you have to share is just as valuable as random Facebook postings you keep sharing.

You just start to get closer to a flow of writing, even if it is that first draft that will be trashed. And, there you are again sharing an inspirational picture on Facebook – only it could be yours, if you’d stay still, breathing long enough to find your flow and float with it a moment. Finally you frustrate yourself so much you are so close to calling yourself a f…ailure (insert your word here) and feel like you must shift this pattern of self-sabotage. You know it’s a slippery slope you wish not to slide down again. You know your thoughts create your reality, so it’s time for a little self-love. What can you do? You could forget the writing for the moment and go for a walk. You know that time in nature is what you need. It’s the bread crumbs back to you. Ok you’ll allow yourself a little walk. And then you hear your strict school teacher voice demand that after your walk, “you will sit in this chair until you’ve finished your writing assignment.”

Fortunately your time in nature dissolves her and you re-discover your loving kindness reminding you that such demands never worked well for you in school. You choose instead to nourish yourself with a wet sauna, a delicious meal and the glow of a crackling fire in the fireplace. As if by magic, you drift from self-berating and the “have to do’s” to a feeling of peace. You breathe slowly, rhythmically, amazingly in tune to the true you… ah, dancing at last, as you listen to the beat of your knowing and realize what you need to do:

Keep listening to the stirrings of your heart and let them dance.

What’s stirring in your heart, ready to dance? Are you still waiting for an invitation? Will you follow the beat of your heart and dance as only you know how!
